Walks around Abbey Home Farm
On the farmshop notice board you can find details of our walks on the farm. Two are dog free and two are dog friendly. We hope you enjoy the walks as much as we do.
Walks from the shop car park - we regret that this side of the farm is a no dog area.
SHORT WALK, sorry no dogs
There is a short 10ish minute little stroll through the Yellow School wood just down the farm lane.
FARM TRAIL, sorry no dogs
If you follow the woodland walk through the wood to the totem pole, you will then find arrows that guide you along the farm trail, about 35 minutes in total. On this trail you can often see cows, sheep and chickens. It passes around open farmland and through Coronation wood, returning down the old railway line.
WALKING FROM CIRENCESTER (approx 40 mins) sorry no dogs
Exit the Abbey Grounds via the Norman Arch.
Cross the road into The Harebushes wood and continue through the wood until you reach the allotments exit.
Left onto the pavement, over the roundabouts and up to the traffic lights.
Over the crossroads and look on the left for the small gap in the hedge, taking you into one of our fields.
Down the field to the right, keeping the hedge on your right.
At the double gates turn left onto the farm track.
Up the old railway line and first left to the shop.
PERMISSIVE FOOTPATH, dogs WELCOME
From the farm drive back to the traffic lights, turn right up the Stow Road A429, and turn first left down our farm lane (unsignposted), just past the lay-by. 500 metres on the left park tight in to the hedge, and you will see the gate on the right with an arrow. This path goes up through Ragged Hedge Wood, and then past the newly discovered Long Barrow on the right. Follow the arrows across the field with the standing stone, past the grain store and back along the old lane to the car. This takes about 45 minutes on average.
7ish MILE CIRCULAR WALK - Dogs WELCOME
Start from the Norman Arch in Cirencester or you can start from the gate as above.
For more information and history about Harebushes Wood that you enter opposite the Norman Arch see here
The first half of this walk is on a permissive path through woodland opened by Abbey Home Farm and Dillies Farm. 15 minutes on a minor road at the northern end of the route connects the permissive path with the public footpath along the River Churn at the bottom of Perrots Brook hill.
Dogs welcome but please keep them under control as part of the walk is through stock farms.
